East Town Association Part-Time Internship
Jazz in the Park, Bastille Days, East Town Market
Join East Town Association and gain experience in event planning and downtown development! The Association seeks an energetic intern to work part-time in the office with the potential for a summer internship in 2012.
The East Town Association, Inc. is a non-profit business organization that promotes economic development in Milwaukee’s East Town area through special events, including; Bastille Days, Jazz in the Park, and the East Town Farm Market.
The Association seeks a part-time intern (5-10 hours per week) to work in the office during our planning months. Work hours would be during normal business hours (9am to 5pm). Hours are flexible and we are willing to work out a schedule that fits into yours.
Office duties will include answering phones, filing, making copies, assisting with event planning, etc. Should you remain with the East Town Association until summer 2012, event duties will include some physical labor, customer service, selling of merchandise, set up/tear down, and other duties as assigned.
Candidates must have the ability to work under pressure at times and handle high energy events and the attendees at these events. Persons need to be dependable, enthusiastic, personable, comfortable in social settings, dynamic, and eager to learn the event business.
Potential job duties: Answering phones, greeting customers in the office, scheduling meetings,cash transactions, organizing & selling merchandise, setting up & breaking down tables, chairs, bars and other event infrastructure, handling the needs of sponsors, monitoring and stocking the hospitality area at events, catering to the needs of “VIP” guests, stocking beverages and carting them through the park, running errands around the East Town neighborhood, creating and conducting surveys of event attendees, performing cleaning duties and other duties as assigned

The East Town Association was officially incorporated in 1983, although it began in the early 1960’s.
The first Bastille Days took place July 17 & 18 in 1982 and we celebrate the 30th anniversary in 2011.
East Town Market celebrates 15 years in 2011 and over 80 vendors participate annually.
Jazz in the Park started in 1991, 21 years later we have over 8,000 weekly attendees.
The Storm the Bastille started in 1985. Today, over 5000 runners and walkers participate.
November through May, check out the East Town Market at Discovery World on the 2nd Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
The first Bastille Days was located on Jefferson Street directly in front of George Watts & Son, today Bastille Days has four stages and occupies eight city blocks.
Beginning in 2009, we no longer allow guests to carry in their own alcoholic beverages to any of our events, including Jazz in the Park. Support these free events and buy a glass of wine!
